Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the IAH Commission on Groundwater and Climate Change, I am pleased to share the “Groundwater and Climate Change: A Visual Perspective” Photo Contest, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of the crucial role of groundwater in climate resilience, water security, and ecosystem sustainability.
The contest is open to all of you, including students, early-career professionals (under 35), and photography enthusiasts, and invites participants to submit photographs that visually capture the links between groundwater and climate change. Suggested themes include drought and water scarcity, extreme climate events, sustainable groundwater management, and the often hidden but essential value of groundwater for communities and ecosystems.
The submission period is open until 15 June 2026.
Winning and selected photographs will be showcased during the IAH 2026 Congress in Budapest (14–18 September 2026), where a dedicated photo exhibition will also take place.
We would be very grateful if you could help disseminate this opportunity within your networks and encourage potential participants to contribute.
All information, submission guidelines, and participation forms are available here:

Thank you for helping us give greater visibility to groundwater and its critical role in addressing climate challenges.
Kind regards,
Manuela Lasagna
